Sclerenchyma is the supporting tissue in plants. Two types of sclerenchyma cells exist: fibers and sclereids. Theircell walls consist of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin.Sclerenchyma cells are the principal supporting cells in plant tissues thathave ceased elongation.
