Fossorial is an animal adapted to digging which lives primarily, but not solely, underground. Examples are badgers, naked mole-rats, and salamanders.

Bees and wasps are called "fossorial Hymenoptera".

Rodent species are also considered fossorial as they live in burrows for maximum though they may be surface-dwellers during other parts of the day. Few organisms are fossorial to help temperature regulation while some are underground habitat for protection.

Fossorial are animals which live underground due to the temperature balance they help in keeping the food chain in balance to which routine they are adapted.

Some fossorial are adapted to both surface and underground.eg. Are mole, rodents like rats, mouse etc.

Animals have the capability to adapt to the ecosystem of the surrounding with special adaptation in their kidneys and sweat glands in desert.
