The third battle of panipat was fought on 14 january 1761 . The marathas became weak after thier defeat at the hands of ahmad shah abdali in the third battle of panipat. the various maratha cheifs broke away and started ruling over small areas. this battle also allowed the english to strenghten their position in india and so the marathas failed in this battle.
