In Young's experiment interference bands are produced on a screen placed at 75 cm from two slits separated
by a distance of 2.5 mm and illuminated by light of wavelength 4800 Å. Find
1) the fringe width
ü) the change in fringe width if the screen is brought towards the slits by 50 cm.

wavelength,a=4800×10^-10 m

d=2.5×10^-3 m

D=75×10^-2 m

fringe width,B=aD/d

=4800×10^-10×75×10^-2/2.5×10^-3

=1.44×10^-4 m

in the second case D will be 25×10^-2 m

B'=4800×10^-10×25×10^-2/2.5×10^-3

=4.8×10^-5 m

therefore the fringe width changes by 9.6×10^-5 m
