Given : two pairs of data that will most likely yield different variance

and standard deviation.

To Find : Identify the one with a higher possible value of variance

Solution:

Two data set

One is :    2 3  3 3 4

Another is  1 2 3 4 5

Mean = 4   for both data set

Standard deviation for   2 3  3 3 4   is 0.632

Variance is 0.4

Standard deviation for   1 2 3 4 5    is  1.414

Variance is  2

Learn More:

Hence data set  1 2 3 4 5 has higher possible value of variance

because range is high  , and difference of values from mean is higher.
