Answer:
India comprises various cultures, traditions and the essence of all these attributes is our family. In our family, we are taught the joy of living together as one, cheering every merry moment together and facing all the ups and downs together. Over the course of time, the definition of an ideal Indian family has changed. We no longer live with our grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and kins. The branches of the tree called (joint) family have been polarized in bustling divisions which are popularly called nuclear families. Old values are being grafted on to a new social class. The nuclear families are rather complacent. To utter surprise, we are happier than our forefathers.
While more are preferring nuclear families to joint families, the ambiguity is that the smaller proportion of the common folk who lives in the joint families is not different. The younger brother, in the joint family, wants to outperform his elder brother.
Decades ago, the man of the house, the father would hold everyone in the house. There existed a mutual discipline. The sons lived in union and their wives accomplished them happily. Unfortunately, this ethnic character of Indian families has diminished over the passage of time.
Nonetheless, the other side of the coin has spelled success, in some way or the other. The brothers whose ways have been parted have become independently successful. They are comfortable in their own skin. They are happier, because today’s joint families are not actually consolidated. The sibling rivalry is unabashedly there.
Paradoxically, the men of today and yesterday are equally content. Seemingly, this dichotomy broadens with time. Well, it seems implausible that two brothers of separate nuclear families would amalgamate into an equally happy joint family. A tinge of animosity is prevalent.
