Gandhiji’s dream was shattered because  the Muslims in West Bengal were attacked and were made to leave the state, for this Ghandhiji did an Andolan for fasting. Seeing Gandhiji like this his supporters  were angery on the government. Still after Independence the muslims were kicked out of West Bengal and were sent to East Pakistan (present day Bangladesh).
