We have parliamentary form of government both at the centre and in the States. In fact, we have adopted this system on British pattern. Ina parliamentary democracy, there is a close relationship between the legislature and the executive. The Council of Ministers is constituted from amongst the members of the legislature which holds office so long as it enjoys the confidence of thelegislature. In a parliamentary form of government, the Head and the State, the President in case of India, is a nominal head. Although , he/she enjoys many powers, but in practice all these powers are exercised by the Councilof Ministers headed by the Prime Minister.
