Simple is the answer that…indian political system is based on universal adult franchise where everyone get fair chance to choose their candidate and hence it's a democracy means rule by the people…..but unlike in other countries like UK OR JAPAN where constitutional or democratic monarchy prevail, in India head of the state, which is president, is elected one not a hereditary…thus it is a republic although not directly from the people but by the elected one….
