• Smt. Irani stated that a certification system based on similar international standards validated through an internationally acceptable institutional structure is essential to assure the sustainability, integrity, and end-to-end traceability of organic products.
• As a result, the Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with APEDA (Ministry of Commerce and Industry), has established a certification system for organic cotton, which will be phased in throughout the textile value chain.
• APEDA has also taken up the issue of prescribing a certification system for non-organic cotton so that cotton utilisation can be appropriately increased.
• Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) made the highest-ever Minimum Support Price (MSP) operation of cotton, according to the Minister, and he is hoping that purchase under MSP will be enhanced during the upcoming cotton season.
• CCI has opened 430 procurement centres across the country, with payments sent digitally to farmers' accounts within 72 hours.
