Indian Government views its foreign policy from the eyes of national self interest as its prime goal.Conduct any countries is constrained by its neighbours, environment, its resources, its internal stability, internal unity, its strength both economic military, its friends around the world, its dependence on outsiders and its goal.In 1947 India had won a hard fought independence in an non violent battle of epic proportion lasting nearly a century, against historic super power that ruled more than half the world and whose cruelty and longevity is unmatched in the recent history. It was natural that India had an aversion of colonialism and colonialists who had reduced the great indian civilisation to a level of a poster child for poverty and myriad other ills. British came to India on the pretext of trade conquered India and looted the people and by conspiracy, cruelty, callousness. and deceit. They also left India partitioned causing untold suffering and made it possible for Pak army dominate over its people and carry out its hate filled campaign against India.Independent India naturally did not want to be camp followers to anybody else in the world. Nehru with his clear vision formulated and followed Non aligned Policies that gave us identity and got down to building a nation that is much respected around the world for its Democracy, Culture, unity and emerging country with soft power and many friends across the divide. As the Russian power declined we have had to lean more on America as USA needed us to checkmate China the new challenger to US power in Asia and the truancy of Pakistan in its dealings with rest of the world isolated them.India still remaining non aligned but still pursuing a peaceful policy albeit more wst oriented policy. It still has fully pursue its quest to become strong in many fronts particularly in economic and military fronts to safeguard its independence in policy options and sovereignty
