From Gujarat to Arunachal pradesh there is a time lag of two hours. Hence standard meridian of India (82.5)
passing through Mirzapur (Uttarpradesh) is taken as the standard meridian of India. Otherwise different regions of India would have different times which would create problems so to have a standard time for whole country 82.50 E has been chosen as standard meridian and this is called Indian standard time (IST) .
