INERTIA - Inertia is the resistance of any physical object to any change in its position and state of motion. This includes changes to the object's speed, direction, or state of rest. Inertia is also defined as the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant velocity.
There are basically three types of Inertia-:
(a) Inertia of Rest: The inability of a body to change by itself its state of rest is known as Inertia of Rest.
Examples:
(i) Person sitting in a car falls backwards, when the car suddenly starts. It is because the lower portion in contact with the car comes in motion where as the upper part tries to remain at rest due to inertia of rest.
(b) Inertia of Motion: The Inability of a body to change by itself its state of uniform motion is known as Inertia of motion.
Examples:
(i) When a moving car suddenly stops the person sitting in the car falls forward because the lower portion of the body in contact with the car comes to rest whereas the upper part tends to remain in motion due to inertia of motion.
(ii) An athlete runs a certain distance before taking a long jump because the velocity acquired by running is added to the time of jump, so that it can cover a long distance.
(c) Inertia of Direction: The inability of a body to change by itself its direction of motion.

(i) When a car moves round a curve the person sitting inside is thrown outwards in order to maintain his direction of motion due to inertia of motion

inertia:- The tendency of a body to oppose any change in it's state of rest or uniform motion. there are three types of inertia.
Inertia of rest
the tendency of a body to oppose any change in it's state of rest .eg :-
When a tree is vigorously shaken, some of the leaves fall from the tree. this is because , the branches of the tree come in motion but the leaves continue in their state of rest. As a result, the leaves get separated from the branches and fall down.
Inertia of Motion
the tendency of a body to oppose any change in it's state of uniform motion.eg:-
Luggages are usually tied with a rope on the roof of the buses, because when the moving bus suddenly stops, the luggages tends to continue it's motion due to inertia of motion. Hence the luggages will fall down. similarly when the bus starts moving the luggages tends to continue in it's state of rest and hence fall down.

when a fast moving bus negotiate a curve on the road, the passengers falls towards the center of the curve. this is due to the tendency of the passengers to continue to move in a straight line.
