STRUCTURE: Cardiac muscle is striated muscle that is present only in the heart. Cardiac muscle fibers have a single nucleus, are branched, and joined to one another by intercalated discs that contain gap junctions for depolarization between cells and desmosomes to hold the fibers together when the heart contracts.

FUNCTION: Cardiac muscle tissue is an extremely specialized form of muscle tissue that has evolved to pump blood throughout the body. In fact, cardiac muscle is only found in the heart and makes up the bulk of the heart's mass.

The cardiac muscle is a modified form of the straighter muscle.

The cells of cardiac muscles r in d form of cylindrical branched fibre and connected with each other to form a contractile network.

Striations r present and the cells are uninucleoid.

Cardiac muscles show rhythmic contraction and expansion throughout the life.

These are involuntary muscles present in the heart.

Hope it helps.
