The personalities that greatly contributed to the formation of maharashtra like uddhavrao patil,yashwant chavan, S.M. Joshi, P.K. Atre formed an organisation called the Samyukta Mahasabha organisation to spearhead a revolution that would see the division of the state Bombay into two states as a result of linguistic difference. This are the personalities that proposed and so through the state resolutions that resulted to the creation of maharashtra.

"Uddhavrao Patil: Uddavrao Patil was one of the prominent leaders of the Samyukta Maharstra movement.The movement started in the year 1956 with the demand of creating a separate state for the Maratha speaking people.Some of the other prominent leaders of the movement were   Shreedhar Mahadev Joshi, Shripad Amrit Dange etc.on May1,1960,it was the major achievement of Samyukt Maharastra Samiti that Bombay was divided into two separate states-Maratha speaking Maharastra and Gujrati speaking Gujrat.At that time the chairman of the samiti was Uddhavrao Patil.

Yashvantrao Chavan:Yashvantrao Chavan was popularly known as the leader of the common people.He was the first Chief Minister of Maharastra after the partition of Bombay.Yashvantrao Chavan was never a part of the United Maharastra movement and never joined the Samyukta Maharastra Samiti.However he had his contributions in convincing Nehru in forming the Marathi speaking Maharastra and I rightly been called the architect of Maharstra.

S M Joshi: S M Joshi or Shreedhar Mahadev Joshi   was a freedom fighter and a prominent leader of the Samyukta Maharastra Samiti.He was a part of the Civil Disobedience Movement and was imprisoned for one year.Later he formed the Congress Socialist Party and Rastrya Seva Dal.He had huge contributions behind the formation of Maharastra as a Marathi speaking state.He also worked for the Dalits in Maharastra.

P K Atre: P K Atre or Prahlad Keshav Atre was also popularly known as Acharya Atre.He was a famous Maratha poet and writer.He was also the founder and editor of a popular Maratha language daily named Maratha.He was a prominent member of the Samyukta Maharastra Samiti.Atre wrote a number of plays and his film Shyamchi Ayi won the National Fiml Award for The Best Feature Film.He also became the member of the Maharastra Vidhan Sabha.
