• 18 countries around the Indian Ocean we affected.The countries affected were Indonesia, Thailand, India, Sri-Lanka, Malaysia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Maldives, Reunion Island (French), Seychelles, Madagascar, Mauritius, Somalia, Tanzania, Kenya, Oman, South Africa and Australia.
• The death toll is estimated to be around 300,000. Over 5 million people were affected by the tsunamis and well over a million were left homeless. The most affected was Indonesia.
• It obviously affected the fishing and tourism industries.
• India's only active volcano, Barren 1 had erupted on 30th December due to increased seismic activity.
