Humans require various metals to perform day-to-day functions of the body. Some of that are explained below -

Iron -

  • Iron is prerequisite for formation of hemoglobin.
  • It is component of enzymes - catalases, peroxidases, cytochromes.

Zinc -

  • It is invariably present in below metalloenzymes.
  • Used for rehydration therapy in diarrhoea.

Copper -

  • It is essential for RBC production & pigmentation.
  • It forms important part of some metabolic enzymes.

Calcium -

  • Calcium is needed for maintaining structural integrity of bone.
  • It is also essential in nerve conduction & muscle contraction.

Sodium -

  • It form Na-K ATPase pump to maintain osmotic balance.
  • It is also essential in nerve conduction.
