The majority of alloys are prepared by mixing metals in the molten state; then the mixture is poured into metal or sand moulds and allowed to solidify. Generally the major ingredient is melted first; then the others are added to it and should completely dissolve.

An alloy is a homogeneous mixture of either 2 or more metals or a metal and a non-metal. It is prepared by first melting the primary metal and then dissolving the other elements in it in definite proportions. It is then cooled to room temperature. Alloys are, usually, not very good conductors but their components are.

There are different alloys  found around us, some of them are :-

  1. If the metals of the alloy is Mercury, then it is called as Amalgam.
  2. Brass is an alloy of Copper and Zinc.
  3. Bronze is an alloy of Copper and Tin.
  4. Solder is an alloy of Lead and Tin which is used for welding electric wires together.
