initially, there was a single bacterium in a petri dish. the number of bacteria kept doubling every week. (a) find the value of x if the number of bacteria after 6 weeks is represented by 2^x (b) how many new bacteria will grow in the 7th week? (c) what is the ratio of total the number of bacteria after 3 weeks to that after 8 weeks

Answer:
a) x=6
After 6 weeks the number of bacteria would be
1x2x2x2x2x2x2.
b) 64.
The number of bacteria at the end of the 6th week would be 64, while at the end of the 7th week would be 128. Thus the number of bacteria that grew in the 7th week would be 128 - 64 = 64.
c) 0.03125
After 3 weeks= 2x2x2=8
After 8 weeks=2^8= 256
Hence ratio of 8/256=0.03125
Hope it helps.
