because it is only practiced in huge rivers of northern india like ganga,brahmaputra and their tributaries

In South there are couple of places where Inland waterways is very good. In Kerala, especially in parts of Alapuzzha and Kollam, In Karnataka, areas around Shimoga has inland waterways.

However, in North, Bengal and NE its quite more used than South.
