Answers
ANSWER :
1. Inspiration - Inspiration is the process of taking in of the air and expiration is the breathing out of the air.
During inspiration, there is an increase in the volume of the thoracic area, and also increase in the pressure of air in thoracic cavity.
2. Expiration - Expiration is the breathing out of the air.
During Expiration, there is an decrease in the volume of the thoracic area, and also decrease in the pressure of air in thoracic cavity.
3. Diaphragm - During inspiration, the diaphragm contracts and the thoracic cavity increases in volume, and decrease in air pressure.
During expiration, the relaxation of the diaphragm and elastic recoil of tissue decreases the thoracic cavity volume and increases the air pressure.
4. Ribs - During inspiration, the diaphragm and external intercostal muscles contract, causing the rib cage to expand and move outward, and expanding the thoracic cavity.
The external intercostal muscles relax and the internal intercostal muscles contract, pulling the ribcage downwards and inwards. the diaphragm relaxes, moving back upwards. lung volume decreases and the air pressure inside increases.
