inspiration is caused by the contraction of muscles of diaphragm causing it to move downwards thus enlarging the chest cavity. since pressure is inversely proportional to volume, thus pressure drops below the outside pressure and air. Whereas
expiration is relatively opposite: the diaphragm passively relaxes and chest volume decreases causing an increase in air pressure inside the lungs

Hello yaar,
Inspiration occurs when the muscles of the diaphragm contracts and leads to a downward movementt. This the chest cavity is enlarged during this. As it includes the contraction of muscles it is known as active process.
Expiration occurs during the passive relaxation of diaphragm. The chest volume decreases during this process. High pressure present inside rushes out due to which it is known as passive process.
