Metals are electroplated with chromium to prevent it from rusting and gives it a shine.

You asked why we can't make products from chromium itself.

I think that the main cause for this is its cost. Chromium is way more costlier than iron , so they cover iron articles with chromium to make it profitable.

Another reason is probably that pure chromium deposits are very rare.
