Insulin is produced by beta cells of the pancreas.

The insulin checks rise of sugar level in blood in two ways.
1. It promotes glucose utilization by the body
2. It stimulates deposition of extra glucose of the blood as glycogen in the liver.

Insufficient secretion of insulin causes diabetes mellitus.

Hope this helps you.
