Intelligence and common sense are two deffirent things but related too.if a person is a class topper ,it doesn't mean he or she also has a good common sense and vice-versa.

I think intelligent people are not the different species of human. We're all intelligent in our own way. Everybody makes mistakes and if they do something stupid it's not that they don't have common sense.

The quoted line is appropriately said for William Morris. he studied many books on crimes and criminals and he become so intelligent that he is able to short any case. after the reading of the story, we understand that William Morris was able to catch the American and the young woman for stealing the flower ring and hence, proved that Mr. morris was having that much of intelligency by putting and adding the episodes with his common sense and finally he rescued the Regnier's shop from tremendous loss
