Answer :

The detective short story "The Case of the Sharp-eyed Jeweller " by Nicolas Bentley is based on the popular belief that true intelligence is using one's common sense to the fullest.

In this story, the detective William Morris is not an extraordinary person who is always favored by good fortune in detecting criminals. He is a common man who has keen observation skills, a high degree of common sense and an ability to put together the different pieces of a riddle. It is because of these peculiar traits that he is able to detect the true thief of the jewellery piece.

The clues for this detection were very cleverly laid out throughout the story but the correct determination of the criminal depends on how cleverly we followed these leads from the beginning.
