● State function -

  • Property of the system which depends upon only state of the system and not on the path by which is is achieved is called state function.

For example,

  • Internal energy
  • Temperature
  • Volume
  • Pressure
  • Moles

# Internal energy is called state function because -

  • Internal energy does not depend on the path used to go from initial state to final state.
  • It depends only on the state of the system.
  • Hence, internal energy is called state function.
