Answer:

Before going to your success story we would like to know about your background and your qualification?

Farmer: Myself Shri Haribhau Jagdale, staying at Ratanpur Village, Dist; Khargaun, (MP). I stay in a village whose population is about 3,000 and nearly 200 families belong to the farming community. I am 30 years old farmer and did my B.A. My father is doing the farming business from years together but the type of farming was a traditional one. After my educational carrier I had decided to help my father and to do the farming in a better way. I am having 40 acres of land, in which on 25 acres of land cotton is grown, on 5 acres soyabean, on 5 acres chilli and on remaining 5 acres of land other crops are grown.

Q: What was your first step in achieving the success in farming business?

Farmer: I visited many farms where improved technology of farming was being used and then I started collecting and reading the literature based on it. I am having 40 acres of land, in which on 25 acres of land cotton is grown, on 5 acres soyabean, on 5 acres chilli and on remaining 5 acres of land other crops are were grown. When I started farming I used improved varieties of crops and more emphasis was given on timely sowing, balance dose of fertilizer and control of pest.

Q: In which crops you achieved a good success and how?

Farmer: In crops like cotton and chilli I got good success. Last year during kharif season cotton was the main crop grown and the varieties used were Daftri-27, Ankur-1262. Although the conditions were not that suitable but still I could get about 12 to 13-q/acre yield of cotton. On the other hand other farmers obtained less yield due to the use of local varieties. From the past two years I am also cultivating chilli on a commercial basis. Last year an Indo-American variety were used but at present use of Ankur-222 variety of chilli was made. In the month of June sowing of seeds was done on 5 acres of land. Before planting I treated the roots of chilli with 3g of Carbendazim per liter of water. Planting was done at distance of 2.25ft x 2.25ft. For 5 acres of land 1125kg of D.A.P, 250kg of Super Phosphate, 1125kg of Urea and 175kg of Potassium was used.

Q: What control measures did you took for the control of pest infestation?

Farmer: As the crops like cotton and chilli were being grown in this area the infestation was to a greater extent but I was always aware of it and timely spray with Hostathion, Cypermethrin, Dithane-M-45, Copper-oxichloride controlled almost all pest effectively.

Q: How much yield and profit you obtained by growing the chilli crop?

Farmer: From 5 acres of land I got 36q of green chilli and as per the profit is concerned from 1kg of chilli I got Rs.9 as per the market rate and as such obtained Rs. 32,400.

Q: What are your future plans and what advice you would like to give to the other farmers?

Shri Haribhau: I am thinking of selling of chilli powder and seeds of it by grinding it with grinder which will be of my own and thus packing and selling of these packets will be done, with the help of other farmers. Regarding the advice to the farmers I would like to suggest that to make progress in case of farming, farmers should adopt new technology and keep on reading the literature based on, techniques to improve the farming.
