resources can be classified----

  • on the basis of origin as biotic and abiotic
  • on the basis of exhaustibility as renewable and nonrenewable
  • on the basis of ownership as individual, community, national and international
  • on the basis of status of development as potential, developed stock and reserves.

A biotic factor is a living thing that has an impact on another population of living things or on the environment. eg, animals and plants. Abiotic factors do the same thing, but they are non-living.eg, land, water.

A nonrenewable resource is a natural substance that is not replenished with the speed at which it is consumed. Renewable resources are the opposite: Their supply replenishes naturally or can be sustained. The sunlight used in solar power and the wind used to power wind turbines replenish themselves.

Potential- resources that are found in a particular region but have not been utilised. eg wind and solar energy in rajhsthan

Developed resources- resources which are surveyed And their quantity and quality have been determined for utilisatiom.

Stock- material in the environmmet which have the ability to satisfy human need but we dont have the technology to access.

Reserve- the resources whose use is known but have not been started yet.
