ionic compounds are solouble in water but not in kersone and petrol ? why

That's because water is a universal solvent.. also it has H+ ions that act as cations giving space for ionically charged components to get dissolved into it..

Solubility  depends upon the polarity of solute and solvent.

they will be soluble like dissolve like, means polar solute will be soluble in polar solvent, and non polar ion no polar solvent.

here Ionic compound is polar and water is polar that's why they are soluble .

but in case of kerosene it's a organic compound and its anon polar.

Therefor no solubility of  ionic compound in non polar solvent.
