Ionic conductance of an ion is obtained by multiplying the equivalent conductance at infinite dilution of any strong electrolyte that contain ion.
Here ionic conductance λH+ is x
ionic conductance λSO4- is y
so according to Kohlrausch's law =
λH2SO4 = λH+ + λSO4- = X + Y

2x + y/2 is the correct answer.

Explanation:

  • Equivalent conductance can be defined as the conductance produced by an equivalent ion present in the solution.
  • For H⁺, no.of e⁻ change =1
  • For SO₄²⁻, no.of e⁻ change =2
  • Thus equivalent conductance of H₂SO₄.
  • H₂SO₄ = 2H⁺ + SO₄²⁻.
  • Eg Conductance =  2[Ionic conductance of H⁺ ]/ nf +[ Ionic Conductance of SO₄²⁻ /nf ].

Eg Conductance = 2x + y/2.
