Ionic solids are conductor of electricity in fused state but not in solid state. Explain why.

Ionic compounds form lattice ( repeated and regular arrangement of units) .They are entrapped in fixed places in Crystal lattice and cannot move when electric field is applied.

but in molten state they are good conductors.
