ionic solids conduct in the molten state and not in the solid state

This is because in solid state the particles are held together by strong forces of attraction but in molten state they have free ions and thus they are good conductors in molten state.

in solid state the ionic bond is so strong but in molten state they form ions that's why they conduct in molten state not in solid state
