Do you know what is an electromagnet?
It is a device in which, a wire is wound around a soft iron core and as current is passed through the coil, we get strong magnetic field lines.

Now, iron is a metal with magnetic properties. Hence, if you switch on the current of an electromagnet, iron gets attracted to the electromagnet.

So your answer is, when you place an iron nail between (beside) an electromagnet (which is switched on), the iron nail gets attracted to the electromagnet.
