Question :

Find the products Formed in the final step of the following series reactions.

Aniline+ NaNO2 +HCl →A

A + HBF4 →B

B+ heat →Product

Theory :

Diazotization:

The process of converting of a primary aromatic amines into its diazonium salt by treatment with nitrous acid is called as diazotization.

C6H5NH2+NaNO2+→benzenediazonium chloride

⇒Benzenediazonium chloride is extremely useful synthetically.

⇒It is used in the preparation of many organic compounds.

Solution :

First step of reaction :

Aniline reacts with sodium NaNO2 and HCl at 0-5° C to form benzene diazonium chloride.

⇒Reaction as follows:

C6H5NH2+NaNO2+→benzenediazonium chloride

Second step of reaction, Benzenediazonium chloride reacts with hydrofluoroboric acid to produce fluoborate.

⇒Reaction as Follows:

C6H5-N2-Cl + HBF4 →C6H5-N2-BF4

Third step of reaction :

Fluoborate on thermal distortion results in the formation of fluorobenzene.

⇒Reaction as follows :

C6H5-N2-BF4 + heat → C6H5-F+ BF3+ N2

_____________________

Therefore : Final products are fluorobenzene ,BF3 and N2
