Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) with any kitchen acid such as vinegar (dilute acetic acid).

Baking powder : NaHCO3 + H+

On acid base reaction, baking soda releases CO2 as follows:

NaHCO3 + H+ → Na+ + CO2 + H2O

.
baking soda is used in making cakes and bread fluffy and soft .its molecular formula is NaHCO3 commonly known as sodium bicarbonate.
.
.
.
.
production of sodium bicarbonate--
NaCl+NH3+H2O+CO2--------> NaHCO3+NH4Cl
.
.
.
.
properties of sodium bicarbonate-----
1.it is white crystal soluble in water.
2.it is non-corrossive base.
.
.
.
.
use of sodium bicarbonate----
1. it is used in baking powder to make cakes soft and fluffy.
2.it is used as an antacid .
3.it is used as in soda fire extinguisher.
.
.
.
.
chemical reaction during heat ----
when sodium bicarbonate is heated with an acid which provides if an hydrogen ion and then sodium ion , carbon dioxide and water is released and co2 is released out and thus makes the cake and bread soft and fluffy .
NaHCO3+H*-------> Na*+CO2+H2O.
