The energy of the first transition from the ground state of the hydrogen atom is 3.4 ev (a quarter of 13.6 ev, the ionisation potential). That is in the near UV part of the spectrum, hence it is possible that some could see it, in which case it would absorb such light and re-emit. Cats could probably see it.
