ANSWER.....
Bhojpuri is spoken in the eastern-most parts of Uttar Pradesh and the western-most parts of Bihar. The classification and status of Bhojpuri has been a disputed question. The linguist George Abraham Grierson, though gave a wide scope to the definition of Hindi, did not include Bhojpuri in it. He classified Bhojpuri as a dialect of Bihari language (which is not a classification under Hindi by him). His Bihari group includes other than Bhojpuri, all the dialects of what is Maithili language, and Sadri, Magahi and Kurmali. The problem with this classification is that it considers Maithili and Bhojpuri as dialects of the same language though they are very different, while Bhojpuri and Awadhi become dialects of different languages. (Awadhi is a dialect of the eastern branch of Hindi according to him.) Awadhi and Bhojpuri have a lot of similarity and must be classified together, as parts of one same language. (Awadhi is Bhojpuri’s western neighbour).

Awadhi, Bagheli and Chhattisgarhi are often grouped together and called together as ‘Kosali’ (not Kosli, which is a different dialect, Sambalpuri dialect of Odiya). Recently Surgujiya has been recognized as being a different dialect and not a part of Chhattisgarhi. Bhojpuri and Sadri (which is spoken in western Jharkhand and was classified as a sub-dialect of Bhojpuri by Grierson) should be classified along with this group of dialects.
