Condensation of water vapor is exothermic. It requires a lot of energy to boil water, that is, to convert it from liquid to gas (water vapor); conversely when water vapor condenses, that heat of vaporization is released. That is why, when a thunderstorm looms overhead, just before the rain starts, there is a hot sultry feeling in the air, because the water vapor is condensing into rain, releasing a lot of heat.
