“The ballot is stronger than the bullet.”

This was the word of Abraham Lincoln. This is the fundamental of a democracy. Election, Choice. Which we don't have in any other form of government. We can choose anyone of our choice. It may not involve direct decision making, but it certainly involves choosing the right person. We can express our displeasure over matters and the elected representatives are bound to hear us, even if we are a minority.

But in a dictatorship we don't have a choice. And more often than not, it is a majority and authoritarian rule. Often minorities live in fear or are forced to do like the majority. It is also often hereditary and no other person is allowed to be a part of the government unless you are an accomplish.

This is all straight forward. But some recent examples suggest that it may not seem what it looks. Take for example The Arab Spring.

It started with revolution to bring democracy to the Arab states which were mostly monarchy or dictatorship. People like Hosni Mubarak, Saddam Hussein were thrown out of their seats of power. But this created a void in the entire governance. And it was a golden opportunity for terrorist outfits like ISIS to take control. Today Iraq is no longer a nation it was. It is like a no man's land where various organizations are staking claim and the lives of people are in shambles.

As Fidel Castro said

“The revolution is a dictatorship of the oppressed against the oppressor.”

The statement is proved here. Instead of creating a democratically elected government, many started an organization which is now a terrorist organization.

I, hereby, am not advocating for dictatorship. But what I am saying is that we always need a leader, a able leader who believes in people and not just revenge.

Democracy has many faults that's true. But ultimately we have the choice.

In a democracy, leadership perceived to be poor can be replaced lawfully without violence and routinely as necessary. Limits are typically placed on the lawful authority of government to reduce and prevent abuse of power. Its weakness, however, is first that the perception of the electorate can be distorted to support poor government or reject good government through campaigns of misinformation and second that when the majority rules it may seek to exercize tyranny over the minority.
