Answer:

There is a good side and bad side to everything. The good side of education is that we are LEARNING. We are learning about the subjects related with our class, subjects related with our degree. We know how to read and write. We are career oriented, people are employed after completing their Education. What else we want. Right?

But the bad side of it is that We aren’t learning in the right way. we do not learn anything apart from our syllabus and that’s why most of the children do not feel like studying in the class.

I am greatly influenced by what John Dewey talked about Pragmatism in Education. His method of educating a pupil is totally different from what we are doing these days. What we are doing is a business, rot memorisation, and Just a fixed knowledge. What Dewey stressed upon was Learning by Doing, Learning from environment, Freedom for children, Teacher being a facilitator should educate in such a way that it motivates them. In that way only, we will be able to say that We have learned something from our education. Textbooks are important but rot memorising the whole textbook is not. We must learn, think and analyse. And only then the Education will be educating us in the right way. Don’t make it a business.

“Is education really educating us?” As we all know that everything has its own drawbacks. The good thing about education is that it makes us qualified enough to get a decent job. What else do we need? Is employment the only goal of education?

No, the real goal of education is the prosperity of humans, these rational and prosperous humans lay the foundation of an ethical and sophisticated society, which leads to the development of a strong and elegant nation.

But in this generation, the true essence of education is dominated by the rat race of getting good grades. And this develops the conformity and limitation on creativity, curiosity and pragmatic thinking of individuals.

We have to shift the lens from grades to the real and pious taste of education which will develop better professionals along with free minds and it will be the most vital asset for humanity. It will require commendable effort from both teachers and students to implement this idea.

It's not like the current standards of education aren’t able to teach us anything at all. And also, it's not like they are able to teach us in the best way possible.

I would like to end things with one of Aristotle's quotes - " Those who educate children well are more to be honored than they who produce them; for these only gave them life, those the art of living well."

Thank you.
