Frenkel defect is dislocation a defect in solids in which the ions occupy a site other than its own. It creates an interstitial defect in the new site
It is always found in ionic solids with low coordination number because if the coordination number is high, the intermolecular forces of attraction will be very high and Frenkel defect cannot take place.
