Gandhiji was from a vegetarian family. But I've read that during his late teens, he fell into bad company, secretly consumed non vegetarian food and alcohol, stole money and smoked. But he then realized that his dad would be really upset if he ever came to know about it. So Gandhiji decided to put an end to his bad habits. He also decided to confess the truth to his dad, apologize for his actions and promise him that it would never be repeated. He did so by writing a letter to his dad and handing it over to him personally. His dad was quite shocked after reading the letter but didn't react. He closed his eyes and quietly shed tears. Gandhiji was grateful that his dad didn't get angry, shout at him or beat him.

He was truly an epitome of honesty.
