is graphite a liquid or solid or both? how it is used as a lubricant?

Graphite and diamond are indeed two of the solid forms of elemental carbon, but I have never heard of a liquid or gaseous form of elemental carbon. In order to get a gaseous form of carbon, the carbon must be compounded with other elements which are already gases.
