That said, there is a Dominican order in Dau, Pampanga (Philippines) that isolates itself from the world almost entirely, and yet are still able to survive with zero interactions between the monks and the outside community because just about everything is produced from within the community (with the main interactions being selling and purchasing the bare necessities not found within, as well as Sunday masses). They avoid contact and interactions with the world whenever possible, because they seek to attain spiritual perfection through prayer and a simple life.
So that’s basically it: either people can’t have power or money (because they were taken away from them), or people choose to live without power or money (because these serve as distractions from attaining their higher purpose).
