Given :  t² - (1/2)t  + √5

To find :  is it polynomial

Solution:

Polynomial has variables   with non negative integer power .

t² - (1/2)t  + √5

t has  power 2  and 1

√5  can be considered multiplied with any variable with power 0

and maximum power is degree

Hence this is a polynomial  with degree 2  as maximum power is 2

t² - (1/2)t  + √5  is a polynomial with degree 2
