Well, if you are speaking about chatting on social media, then obviously, it will diverge your attention. You won't understand what the teacher is saying. Don't even chat in the breaks.
If you are asking about chat option in Google meet then it's fine. If you are asking a doubt to the teacher, or speaking something related to study then it's okay.
Coming to Zoom, it has an option for personal chat. This is what you shouldn't do. Chatting with the teachers is fine, but not with the students.
Use the breaks to recall and practice what has been taught in the lectures.
Don't follow children like, "Kaun karte baithega he sab? Inke lectures toh shuru hi rehne wale hain. Chalo chatting karte hain."
I am warning you. Don't accompany such students. You will have fun now but you will have to suffer for your whole life. Your present study will decide your future.
