It is written in all books that dissolving sugar with water is a physical change as the physical properties of sugar does not change and sugar remains sweet only. So it is a physical change. In this way dissolving of salt to water shall be considered a physical change too. But NaCl+ H2o= Na OH + Cl2
Which is a new substance

adding salt to water and adding sugar to water both are physical changes but the salt and sugar we use in our home are not the pure NACL so when we add the pure NaCl in water it will form a new compound and that will be a chemical change
