Linear momentum  is a vector quantity defined as the product of an object's mass, m, and its velocity, v. Linear momentum  is denoted by the letter p and is called "momentum" for short: Note that a body's momentum  is always in the same direction as its velocity vector. The units of momentum are kg.

Momentum is scientifically defined as the actual quantity of motion or the kinematical and the dynamical property, contained or generated in a given object, due to its mass and velocity...

Momentum is of two types:

  • The linear momentum of an object is numerically obtained as the product of its mass and velocity vector undergoing translatory motion...
  • The angular momentum of an object is numerically obtained as the product of its moment of inertia and angular velocity undergoing rotational motion...
