If the interest of one region or a state is asserted against the country as a whole or against another region/state in a hostile way, and if a conflict is promoted by such alleged interests, then it is called regionalism.

Regionalism is the excessive affection for one's region often results as a discrimination and domination over other. We can call it as a local-nationalism. It is not good for democracy as it can fragment a nation and can lead to division of area and the people of that country.
